Rich Skelton is associated with Electra, Texas, and first reached the NFR in 1990 while heeling for Tee Woolman. His later partnership with Speed Williams brought the two different roles of team roping together in a notably successful combination.
From 1997 through 2004, Skelton and Williams won eight straight team roping world titles. They also claimed the 2001 NFR average. Skelton’s consistency as a heeler complemented the pace set by Williams at the heading end of the run.
Skelton’s ProRodeo Hall of Fame profile records eight world championships and twenty-two NFR qualifications. His induction came in 2018. Recognition as a 2024 Vegas NFR Icon adds the Las Vegas chapter to a career remembered for both a famous partnership and sustained individual skill.
Vegas NFR Icons recognition year: 2024. This identifies the honor, not a championship season or a scheduled 2026 competition appearance.
