Shawn Davis came from Whitehall, Montana, and qualified for seven consecutive NFRs beginning in 1963. His saddle bronc world titles arrived in 1965, 1967 and 1968. His career also included a return to competition after a severe spinal injury and a lengthy recovery.
As PRCA president, Davis cast the deciding vote when the board split over moving the NFR from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas. The city first hosted the finals in 1985, making that decision one of the key moments in the event’s modern history.
Davis became NFR general manager in 1986 and continued through 2018. His work extended to fan entertainment, presentation and fitting the competition into a television program. His 2025 Icons recognition therefore reflects both a competitive career and decades of work behind the arena production.
Vegas NFR Icons recognition year: 2025. This identifies the honor, not a championship season or a scheduled 2026 competition appearance.
